RSVP Speed-Reading App

A native iOS speed-reading app that uses Rapid Serial Visual Presentation (RSVP) to help users read 3–5x faster. Import articles, eBooks, and web content — then read at 300–1,000+ WPM with guided focus.

The Challenge

Most people read at 200–250 words per minute, but the bottleneck isn't comprehension — it's subvocalisation and regression. Existing speed-reading tools are either clunky web apps or outdated utilities that ignore modern iOS design patterns. We needed to build an app that felt native, beautiful, and genuinely useful — not a gimmick — while supporting diverse content sources like Safari articles, PDFs, and ePub files.

The Solution

We built SpeedyRead as a 100% native SwiftUI app using RSVP (Rapid Serial Visual Presentation) technology. The reader flashes one word at a time at the user's chosen speed, eliminating subvocalisation and regression. We implemented a universal content importer that accepts URLs, clipboard text, PDFs, and files via the iOS Share Sheet. The app includes adjustable WPM (50–1,500), font size and theme customisation, a reading history log, and a StoreKit 2 / RevenueCat subscription for premium features. The entire experience was designed to feel like a first-party Apple app.

The Results

SpeedyRead launched on the App Store and users consistently report reading articles 3–5x faster than their normal pace. The Share Sheet integration means content flows seamlessly from Safari, Twitter, and other apps into the reader. The premium subscription tier has seen healthy conversion rates driven by the paywall's clear value proposition.
