The Challenge

Millions of shift workers in hospitality, retail, and healthcare are regularly underpaid due to complex pay rules — overtime thresholds, weekend rates, bank holiday premiums, and tax deductions. Most workers have no easy way to verify their payslip. Manually checking hours against a paper payslip is tedious and error-prone, so discrepancies go unnoticed and money is left on the table.

The Solution

We built ShiftCheck with SwiftUI and SwiftData for reliable offline-first tracking. Workers log their shifts with start/end times, break deductions, and custom pay rules (hourly rate, overtime multiplier, weekend premiums). The killer feature is Vision OCR payslip scanning — users photograph their physical payslip and the app extracts the gross pay, then compares it against the calculated expected pay to flag any discrepancies. The entire data model is stored locally with SwiftData, and premium features are gated behind a RevenueCat subscription.

The Results

ShiftCheck empowers shift workers to take control of their pay. The OCR scanning feature dramatically reduces the friction of manual checking — a process that previously took 15–20 minutes now takes under 30 seconds. Workers in hospitality and healthcare have found it particularly valuable for catching underpayments they would have otherwise missed.
